Sleight Of The Union

Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, rabbit from the hat...all the usual metaphors relating to illusions are applicable in the case of tonight's speech by the President. Style without substance, many words spoken yet nothing said...tonight we are going to hear a lot of words, undoubtedly flowery and flowing rhetoric accompanied by many tingles up mainstream journalists' legs.

There will be hours upon hours of careful dissection and parsing of his words by the mainstream media, and fact-checking by both liberal and conservative think-tanks will undoubtedly disagree. What they will all miss among the lofty oratory is the narcissistic "I saved the economy, now let me save the future" undertone that accompanies this man's every word and action.

Data Points

Anyone else find it odd that the day after the State of The Union address, that the Department of Health and Human Services "updated" their number of waiver requests to opt out of Obamacare? Oh, just a slight jump...from 222 to 729!

The weekly jobless number...454,000, up 51,000 from a week ago...but hey, there is a logical reason why that jump is so high...turns out that snowy weather in the south prevented 25,000 people from filing last week. That makes it sooooo much better.

Here's a good one for you...$4,000,000,000 (4 BILLION) for those of you currently in school. That's the DAILY interest on our national debt. President Otrauma's solution is to freeze the current level of $1.5 Trillion in annual deficit spending...but hey, we're going to "invest" in our future now.

If you aren't outraged, then you aren't paying attention.

The Constitution's REAL Purpose!

A wise American, Daniel Webster said " It it hardly too strong to say that the Consitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."

All too often, as our Founding Fathers also warned us, once in power, the "well" and "good" part tends to take a backseat to the "govern" and "master" part.

The TEA party has been a major factor in reminding those we elect where the power really lies, and any elected lawmaker who continues to dismiss us as "astroturf" does so at their own political peril. The 112th Congress plans a "live reading" of the Constitution on the House floor Thursday morning, and if you ask me, it should be beamed into EVERY classroom in America so that our children can know that their well-being is NOT dependent upon any elected official or entitlement program, but is only limited by their desire to achieve and to succeed!

Regarding the Constitution reading, David Limbaugh of Townhall.com summed up the best: "The...liberals' end-justifies-the-means mentality, which, as we are witnessing, is a green light for tyranny and a smothering of liberty and democratic principles in the name of promoting them. Their arrogance and mockery just serve to confirm their disrespect for our founding institutions. More importantly, they underscore the enormity of the stakes involved and strengthen our resolve to politically defeat liberals and crush their systematic assault on our liberties."
